Right now at Alysa Rene Boutique we have some gorgeous tops with grommets on them. Exposed

'Tis the season for knit sweaters, and we are really digging these sweaters with exposed seams. The black sweater on the right has exposed seams down the middle and in the armpits with motorcycle knit on the wrists. The ivory sweater in the middle has exposed seams in the armpits and horizontal ribbing on the body. And the sweater on the left has exposed seams on the armpits and contrasting bands on both the arms, seams, and wrists. The details are what make these sweaters special, but these incredible knits are the kind you live in all season long!

The October "It" List

I want to draw your attention to the current It List at Alysa Rene's Boutique. Now, I know we have all been lusting after the Norma Kamali workout wear (shown here- it's amazing if you haven't bought a piece there might be a jacket or two left)...but this total knockout of a dress by Molly Bracken is such a statement piece and something that you're going to regret not buying when they are gone! The gorgeous leather chevron pattern is fantastic and the length is too good.

Now the black jacket in the middle is not just your basic great coverup. It is so much more. With the leather patches on the sleeves, the gorgeous draping shape combined with a great asymmetrical zipper and topped off with the feel of your favorite live- in cardigan (read: view that collar), this jacket is simply a must-have.

Down below we have a pair of Bed Stu heels. Not only do they have a certain Victorian charm, but they also look absolutely amazing with dresses, jeans, and everything in between. They have a distressed look and offer a great juxtaposition to an ultra girly dress.

Fall Starter Kit

Each of these pieces are staples of the perfect Fall wardrobe. I like to call these 6 piece the "Fall Starter Kit". 

1. The white lace-up top is the right amount sexy, trendy, and easy to throw on with any bottom in your closet. 

2. The sweater jacket in a light grey is another easy piece to throw on top of any outfit to add an extra layer for warmth or to tie an outfit together. 

3. This little black dress by Hazel has a gorgeous braided detail down the front that elongates the body and is made in a soft suede. Totally comfortable.  Totally classic. 

4. The black suede over-the-knee boots will be your go-to boots each fall and winter. Camouflage Made Sexy

Okay you guys, Alysa Rene Boutique has some of the sexiest camo you will see this season. Between the activewear from Norma Kamali (left and right), and the relaxed feminine true camo jacket from Free People (center), you have got to grab a piece (or two) for your closet for fall and winter.

How hot is this modern take on camo that Kamali incorporated into this activewear? No need to change after the gym because this look is perfect!

Versatility: The Camo Jacket

Versatility is a word that is throw around a lot. There are a lot of pieces in our wardrobe that are versatile: these are typically known as classics. Well, behold, the Camo Jacket by Free People. Versatile. Classic. Must-Have.

When you look at the various items that it can be paired with there are obvious choices like a swing black dress or a lace up white blouse, and the not so obvious choices like a beaded dress or a patterned top...but all of these options look just as good as the next one. The camo jacket over the beaded dress will be different, edgy even, but it will work if you have the confidence to pull it off (love it with our light pink beaded dress--for a option that is less bold). If you're not as daring, try the camo jacket with the patterned top and some jeans or this gorgeous merlot top--because Army Green and Merlot are meant for one another! Around this time of year, we let the cold, crisp air of fall and winter dictate our outfits in a "blah" way. We stick to greys, blacks, and other dark colors, and shy away from brights and the more traditionally known as "Spring or Summer colors". This is not the case at Alysa Rene. This fall and winter we are shaking things up! We are bringing you bright colors, fun patterns, and something to put a pep in your step when your friends are warding off the cold weather in basic black! We are adding a whole new meaning to CSI. Strings Attached

One of the trends we are seeing everywhere this fall is strings (faux drawstrings) on tops. We are loving that it adds a little detail and give a little bit of a laid-back vibe to each blouse. The Bead Squad

There are a million cute new piece for fall at Alysa Rene, but what has caught our eye this week are these beaded and/or sequined dresses. The Molly Bracken dress on the right is as cute for day with a jean jacket over the top as it is for night with these absolutely amazing (everyday) Free People short block-heeled sandals. The Line +  Dot sequined dress on the left is going to be absolutely divine when the holiday party invitations start rolling in and you begin to scramble around for something to wear. And the WYLDR dress in the middle--another versatile look that can be dressed down with a jean jacket and booties, or dressed up for evening with a shawl or a leather jacket for a edgier look. All of these dresses are absolutely gorgeous, and these Free People shoes will be worn on repeat all fall long with everything from dresses to jeans.

Lust List: Animal-Inspired Pieces

At Alysa Rene Boutique, we have a sudden influx of animal-inspired pieces. We are in love with it! 

On the top row we have some western-inspired cowboy booties from Australia Luxe Collection that have an embossed snakeskin as a back detail ($325). As we wrap up our "Football Season" series, here are a couple of outfit inspirations for Texas (UT) football games!

It's Football Season: IOWA/MU Gameday Apparel

Today we are bringing you outfit inspiration for ladies attending the University of Iowa (Hawkeyes) or the University of Missouri (Tigers).

It's Football Season: TCU/K-STATE GAMEDAY APPAREL

Packing for the Adventure

Whether or not you are heading back to college or relocating for your dream job, packing is possibly the most daunting task you will have. 

One of the things I want to help with today is the car or plane ride outfit, and the subsequent clothing that you should have in a tote bag or your carry-on that will make drinks with a friend or a late night dinner (once you reach your destination) as seamless as possible.

1. It's always appalling to me how cold planes can get, however, with this amazing Free People duster ($168) you will be warm and bonus! it will double as a blanket for the journey. 

2. One of the things that is commonly overlooked when dressing for the trip, is wearing your most comfortable bra. How horrible is it when you have a bar clasp poking you? Or what about that pesky underwire rubbing? This Free People Bralette ($38) will keep you comfortable for the duration.

3. I always like to travel in something that isn't going to draw a lot of attention to myself. I usually opt for a pair of cute skinny jeans like these awesome Adriano Goldschmied Leatherettes ($245) and an easy white tee like this awesome tacked-sleeve MINKPINK guy ($50). Cute and comfortable without giving people someone to gawk at.

4. On either a road trip or a plane ride, I like to be able to take off my shoes easily (hello TSA), so I am loving either the cute fringe booties from Dolce Vita ($180) or the amazing black motorcycle booties from Dolce Vita ($168) that can easily zip on and off causing zero delays when I'm jumping out to fill up the tank with gas or when I'm zipping through the security line.

5. When I reach my final destination, I usually have a dinner or drinks with friends to jet to, so I always keep a fun throw-on dress like this one from Free People ($108) in my carry-on or travel tote with appropriate shoes for the outfit (Dolce Vita Fringe booties) so I can avoid keeping my friends waiting any longer than they already have.

6. If I'm going to an even more casual event once I arrive, like drinks and a new episode of Scandal at a friends condo, I like to have the easy option of throwing on a statement necklace like this one from House of Harlow 1960 ($178) with my jeans and tee that elevate the easy outfit enough for the atmosphere.

There is a new label at Alysa Rene, and it is called Spell. 

A little background about Spell:

Sale Steals

Alysa Rene is having an end of summer sale, and I combed through the merchandise to bring you five pieces that you should have on your radar. 

Two of the three tops I chose are basics and both high-quality Michael Stars pieces that would be great additions to any closet. The third top I chose is a Trina Turk hot pink, sleeveless blouse that contains interesting lines and would be perfect with a pair of jeans for a date night, drinks with friends, or even to wear to your child's season opening football game.

It's a very elegant dress that has a short hemline that shows off your bronzed summer legs. There is nothing chicer than an all black outfit, and let's be honest, it's also the simplest outfit we can put together.

Ending the week on an upbeat note, if you guys don't own a Peace Love World tee, you should probably head over to Alysa Rene Boutique and procure one for yourself. 1 Piece, Multiple Ways

As promised on Tuesday, today we are showing you how to wear this amazingly versatile MinkPink Vest ($130) five different ways. (The fifth way is not shown in photos).

Look 1: The vest is tied with it's sash and worn as a dress. By throwing on a delicate necklace and some amazing heels-you are ready for a night on the town.

Investment Pieces

Investment pieces are a topic that is covered with great frequency in the fashion industry. What is and is not considered an investment piece? If it's expensive, is it an investment piece? If it's cheap, is it trash fashion? What can and cannot be an investment piece? What are investment pieces? There are so many questions surrounding this topic, so I'm going to try to be as concise as possible while I answer some of these pressing questions regarding investment pieces. So here we go.

What is an investment piece? 

They are articles of clothing (a blouse, a skirt, a pair of shoes, a bag, and so on) that are classics. They will never go out of style, and usually (there are exceptions to every rule) they are seasonless or year-round staples. Examples of such pieces are: A perfectly tailored little black dress, or the perfect khaki trench coat.

If an article of clothing is expensive, does that make it an investment piece?

Not always. You have made an investment by buying an expensive piece, so by the literal definition you have an "investment piece". However, by the fashion definition, if you spend $2000 on a pair of flat, denim, Chanel Espadrilles with the white interlocking c's all over them-are those seasonless? No. Are those timeless? No. Are you going to tire of them after a period of time? Chances are likely that they will end up on your "worst buys" list.

If an article of clothing is cheap, is it trash fashion?

Now trash fashion is a cheap article of clothing that you wear once or twice, it may or may not fall apart in the washing machine afterwards, and you are okay with that fact. The reason you are seemingly okay with it fall apart is because you spent $15 on a shirt at a bargain store with the idea of each wear costing you about $5 a time. (The math: $5 x 3 wears = $15). However, you can also spend $28 on a white classic Michael Stars tank top, and chances are you could go a decade without needed to replace it. So, the price does not necessary equate to a investment article (although our hope is you would only invest your hard-earned money on true investment classics).

    

Above we put together five investment pieces that we will curate below with the hopes of explaining to you why these are investment pieces.

First, we have this collard, white button-down top (MinkPink, $80), and while the bell-sleeves err on the side of trendy, the white button-down top is a true classic. The reason we picked this top in particular is because it has the most flattering gathered waistline, a bit lower-than-usual neckline where the buttons start, and the bell sleeves draw attention to a thin wrist rather than arms that you might be trying to camouflage.

Secondly, we have this nude pump (Sergio Zelcer, $120), which is listed by Nina Garcia (fashion editor of Marie Claire magazine) as one of the 100 pieces every stylish woman should own. This nude pump is in a league of it's own. The lines and textures on this shoes are different than most, yet the silhouette and the pointed toe keep this heel extremely classic and ready to go with any outfit in every season.

Later on this week (on Friday), we will be showing you how to wear this vest (MinkPink, $130) four different ways. This vest isn't just versatile though, this vest makes a statement in a very classic way. The black color and the waist sash make this more of a trenchcoat/topper than a vest but as shown in the photo, you can also wear it as a little black wrap dress. (Multiple uses is always a winner in our book).

 

Next we have this western inspired belt (B-Low the Belt, $150). Belts are an often overlooked accessory (shoes and bags get all of the attention), but it can transform an outfit from a "meh" to a "wow" just like that. Belt a black dress or a long men's shirt and you have yourself a stylish outfit. This belt costs a little more than traditional, but it will garner you several compliments and it will pull together outfits in a pinch.

Lastly, we are lusting after this bison Italian leather handbag (Juan Antonio, $588). Now this by the literal and the fashion definition is an investment piece. There are so many great things about this bag, but one thing that really stands out to us is the quality of craftsmanship and the uniqueness of every single bag he makes. Each bag is bespoke, because it is hand-stitched, hand-distressed, and hand-dyed. There are only a few in the store so hurry in! This will be a piece that you can pass down that will only get better with wear and age.

Fringe Players

The easiest way to be kicked to the fringe of popularity is to be without one of these gorgeous pieces of clothing in your closet come fall. The flirty fringe on each of these items add just the right amount of edge and flare to any outfit that you are planning on wearing in the seasons ahead. 

 

If you are all in on the fringe bandwagon, try out the sexy date night dress by Fifteen Twenty that incorporates this season's "it-color", and both the "cold-shoulder" and the fringe trend.
